[Lesson 5] Beyond Medium virality

Going viral on Medium is just the beginning

You’ve seen the loops for article virality and initial audience recommendation.

So what happens after you apply all of the principles and start going viral?

Yes you start earning a full-time location-independent income.

But you’re just getting started at this point…

Going viral and building an audience has far more value than just what you earn from the Medium Partner Program.

When you build an audience, you get attention.

Attention you can monetize in many different ways beyond what Medium has to offer.

With affiliate marketing you can promote products in your articles — when people buy through your link you get paid.

Here I promoted an Amazon affiliate link.

They have one of the best affiliate programs — especially thanks to their 30-day policy, where you get attributed with ANY one product they buy within those 30 days.

And you know so many many people use Amazon everyday — so in my case here it doesn’t matter if they don’t actually buy the M4 MacBook Pro. Once they click the link there’s a decent chance that they eventually buy something within the 30 days.

Look, I never recommended any of these exact products, but because of the 30-day policy I still got commissions for them.

Another way you can monetize the attention you’re getting now is with sponsorships.

Now Medium doesn’t allow sponsored posts, but you can start a newsletter with a service like Beehiiv and run email sponsorships for several brands.

You can reachout to these brands and run lucrative direct sponsorships with no middleman.

Or you can even use an ad marketplace like the Beehiiv Ad Network to easily get tailored sponsorships for your particular niche.

Even better when you use the attention to promote a product that your audience wants.

We’ve seen this time and time again from successful content creators.

Not only do the views earn you Medium revenue, they become advertising for whatever product you want to sell.

What can you sell?

You can sell digital products like online courses — for example if your niche is in helping people be more productive, you can make a comprehensive course containing the essentials of every single tip and insight you have and sell it for good money.

Once you create it, you can sell it as many times as possible to people in your audience and scale infinitely.

With this scale you can several thousands of dollars from this, some creators have gone on to make even millions.

You can sell digital services like coaching — like for this productivity niche you could offer to 1-on-1 productivity coaching to your audience.

They’ll be like online courses, except now so much interactive and personalized.

You can sell a subscription for your digital services — including juicy bundles of multiple digital services and products — like Apple One and Google One.
